WWE WrestleMania Backlash Coming to You

May 8th in Providence, Rhode Island

Charlotte Flair vs Ronda Rousey at WWE Backlash

WrestleMania Backlash is usually a pay-per-view…er…I mean a premium live event (Can’t get used to that yet) that I can’t stand because of all the rematches from WrestleMania. However, it looks like we aren’t going to as many as usual. Why? Because some of the matches were actually decent and could end the feud or program. Some WWE decided that we needed to see again. I’m not sure I agree.

The Tickets for Backlash

Backlash is being held at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island on Sunday, May 8th at 7:30pm. On April 23rd, WrestleTix posted that the current setup allowed a capacity of 7,501. There had been 7,081 tickets distributed and only 420 available for 94.4% gone. So hopefully we will get a good crowd. But will they be into the matches? With only six matches announced, so far, I’m just not sure.

Roman Reigns

I think a big question for this premium live event is the fact that at WrestleMania 38 the men’s championship were unified, but what does that mean? Many fans assumed that it meant Roman Reigns would be appearing on both Raw and Smackdown. But he hasn’t every week. Many fans assume that it means that Roman Reigns will defend the championships at every premium live event. I don’t think he will. If he does, then I think it will only be one championship at a time.

So, who could Roman take on with a one-week storyline build? I thought it was going to Shinsuke Nakamura, but I didn’t want that. Who wants to see a guy whose assistant (Rick Boogs) was more over than he was? Could see Sheamus? No, probably not since they have him building up Ridge Holland and Butch (Pete Dunne) with the New Day matches. So, who’s left Gunther (WALTER) maybe? Hmm…not sure about that one yet. I think he’s headed for Ricochet’s Intercontinental Championship.

I really think we see Drew McIntyre get going next week. Remember this week is taped. You can find the spoilers out there if you want to see them. Drew McIntyre has been messing around since the first of the year with Baron “Happy” Corbin and Madcap Moss. Will that effect how the fans see him going up against Roman Reigns? Yes, I think so. I don’t see how anyone could believe that Drew would beat Roman with Drew carrying around a sword to “slice” ropes and listening to jokes. Come on, WWE Creative you have to build wrestlers up and quit with the garbage.

The Women’s Division Problem

Who is Bianca Belair taking on at WrestleMania Backlash? Who knows? I thought that Sonya Deville’s program was going to be on it. However, on this past Monday Night Raw they moved the program to there. Bianca actually beat Sonya clean three times. I think the plans definitely have changed about who Bianca is taking on. Next up was supposed to be Rhea Ripley. Rhea vs Liv Morgan will be a good program for Rhea to establish herself as a strong heel. Then and only then should she be taking on Bianca. But will WWE Creative wait? No way will they wait. They need someone now, so I won’t be surprised if we see Rhea vs Liv this coming Monday and then later in the show Rhea attacks Bianca. However, I think that Bianca should rest for Backlash.

As for Sasha Banks and Naomi’s Tag Team Championships, I don’t see them getting added to the Backlash card. I know that will hurt a lot of your feelings, but Nattie and Shayna Baszler are going to be their next opponents. That’s not a match you have to have on this card unless you want a pre-show match. The next question that I usually get asked is about Toxic Attraction. No, Toxic Attraction isn’t coming up soon. I think they were looking at May for them, but that has been changed with Raquel Rodriguez being called up. I’m not sure what her first program will be. Look for Sasha and Naomi not to lose the championships until they go against Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler.

We saw Asuka finally make her comeback this past Monday Night Raw by interrupting Becky Lynch telling her that she wasn’t ready for Asuka. I like this non-title matchup. It’s about time that WWE Creative starts build up the non-title picture. I think we see the same thing on the Smackdown side. After Charlotte Flair losing to Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania Backlash, Lacey Evans will be Charlotte’s non-title matchup. Their Ric Flair program wasn’t finished before Lacey had to leave. What does that mean for Bayley’s comeback? Look for Bayley not to be back before May 9th. Also, yes Io Shirai was in a boot for precautionary measures and has not been cleared yet that I have heard.
