The WWE Women’s Royal Rumble in Trouble?

From What My Sources Are Telling Me…The Winner Is Out

WWE Announced 19 Out of 30 Women Field

Fans, do you realize we are 16 days away from the next WWE Premium Event which is the Royal Rumble? I didn’t until I look at my list from the beginning of the month of things to write about. On January 1st, I was so excited about the Rumble because it is one of my favorite shows. In some recent years, I haven’t enjoyed it nearly as much because of all the stunts WWE feels like they need to pull to keep us interested. No, we keep telling you. Build stories and programs for us to get into and we will watch.

Announcing Early?

WWE has already announced 19 of the 30 women who are entering the Royal Rumble. Did they have a purpose in doing this? I think if you talk to them then they will tell you they did. I believe they were trying to get excitement stirred up with the fans of the veterans and Hall of Fame wrestlers that they announced. Not sure that WWE truly realizing that fans want to know where the current division is going more so than having legends night.

Does that mean I didn’t pop when the Bella Twins, Lita, Mickie James and Kelly Kelly were announced? No, no way. I sure did pop seeing some of the wrestlers coming back. I can’t wait to see them all. However, are any of them willing to sign onto the WWE for the next 6 months or more to win one of the Women’s Championships? No, probably not. So to me…it’s not realistic.

Getting Down on Women’s Wrestling? No Stories?

I think so many casual fans had heard the rumors going around about certain wrestlers coming back and some being possibilities to win the Royal Rumble. More fans than I have heard in awhile. I’ve spoken and seen so many fans down on the WWE Women’s Division and the time given. I think it was really brought home to the fans that watched the Queen’s Crown tournament. Those matches were mostly less than three minutes a piece. Or better yet (sarcastic) having a lot of random triple threats, 6 women tags or promos. A lot rationalized that it was because it was the holiday season and there were a lot of women wrestlers that were coming back after the first of the year.

Think about it we just ended 2021 and no one is talking WWE women’s wrestling. Yes, some of you were talking Charlotte vs Becky, but what else? The creative has been awful. Think it’s always been that way? Really? Think about the ending of 2020. We were all talking about Bayley and Sasha who had just had their friendship break up, Sasha ended Bayley’s reign to get into a battle with a new Untouchable Carmella with Reggie (hated him with her), Bayley was sidetrack by this young rookie Bianca Belair and we were timing how long it was going to take for Shayna Baszler to get upset and make Nia Jax snap, tap or nap during a tag team match. Remember? Just a year.

The Plans Washed Away?

We all hear rumors throughout this season. The difference this year was most in the wrestling business were hearing the same things for awhile. I have no clue how long I’ve been hearing about Ronda Rousey coming back at Royal Rumble and will be leading up to a program with Becky Lynch. Now I’m all of sudden hearing that may not be happening because of the recent Omicron outbreak that was spreading throughout WWE. Ronda will be bringing her baby just like Becky does, so being a new mom both are nervous. Will this lead to Ronda pulling out of this program?

The other rumor I’ve been hearing forever is that Sasha Banks was winning the Royal Rumble. I think many of you have forgotten that Sasha Banks was supposed to defeat Bianca Belair at SummerSlam before she didn’t appear. Becky Lynch filled in for Sasha and won in 26 seconds. So instead of seeing Banks with the championship all fall, we were going to see her aggravate Charlotte Flair consistently until WrestleMania. I was wanting to hear THEIR promos against each other. However, as we know Sasha Banks was hurt in the WWE Live house show in Fayetteville, NC going up against Charlotte Flair. So back to the drawing boards…maybe for both women’s matches at WrestleMania.

Drawing Board

Now where does WWE go? Many of you know when Vince McMahon gets nervous then he turns to Brock. Well when he gets nervous on the women’s side it was Charlotte Flair, but then she was out with an injury and he found out he could rely on Becky Lynch. Then Becky became pregnant, so who did he turn to by putting them on every single show during the pandemic…Sasha Banks and Bayley. Yes, that’s right. He turns to the Four Horsewomen which is who he was betting on this WrestleMania in Dallas. Vince believed the four plus Ronda would be money. He’s hoping that to still be the plan. I look for them to be able to talk Ronda into coming in. Will it be at the actual Royal Rumble Premium Event? Who knows, but I bet we still get Ronda vs Becky Night 1 of WrestleMania.

Night 2 of WrestleMania’s Women’s Match will take some work. I think WWE has already started that work. I hope you listened to Charlotte Flair closely when she was announcing all the entrants to the Royal Rumble. See Mickie James, Nikki Bella, Brie Bella, Michelle McCool, Kelly Kelly, Summer Rae and Lita all were announced then she announced herself.

Charlotte

Charlotte said she’ll be the first champion to win the Royal Rumble and choose her WrestleMania challenger. She didn’t say she would go after Becky because in WWE’s mind Becky has a challenger. Remember who I said I had been hearing Charlotte’s WrestleMania opponents were…Sasha Banks (who is out about another 5–6 weeks) and Bayley (who WWE want ready for Royal Rumble, but technically has about 6 more weeks.) That way if Charlotte wins then she can choose them without them having to rush back to the ring if they aren’t ready. Others that could be considered if needed would Alexa Bliss, Asuka, Bianca Belair and if they can build her back up then Rhea Ripley.

The Others Entered

So let’s make sure we are all on the same page. It is Becky Lynch vs Doudrop for the Raw Women’s Championship in St. Louis at WWE Royal Rumble on Saturday, January 29th.

Participants (19): Lita, Nikki Bella, Brie Bella, Kelly Kelly, Summer Rae, Mickie James and Michelle McCool. Along with Rhea Ripley, Nikki A.S.H., Shotzi, Natalya, Dana Brooke, Carmella, Zelina Vega, Tamina, Aliyah, Naomi and Shayna Baszler plus Charlotte Flair.

Rumors (6): Melina, Cameron, Liv Morgan, Bianca Belair, Asuka, and Alexa Bliss

NXT Rumors (5): Dakota Kai, Raquel Gonzales, Indi Hardwell, Cora Jade, and Mandy Rose

Possibilities (That I Don’t Believe We See Unless Something Goes Wrong): Bayley, Ronda Rousey and Sasha Banks

Well that’s what I’ve heard so far. You know I will update you as WWE changes its mind or things don’t go as planned. I just hope that no one gets hurt or sick between now and then. Let me know what you think or if you have any questions, comments, problems or protests. Write to me at ProWrestlingOT@gmail.com or on Twitter @ProOvertime I’ll talk to you soon and hopefully I’ll see you down the road.
