Do We Want More Jey Uso?

Where’s Braun and The Fiend?

· 4 min read October 13, 2020

Hey everybody, it’s Sam, coming to you with an important wrestling question: do we want more Jey Uso? Is he the next Daniel Bryan or Kofi Kingston? I’m not so sure about that. Yes, it wasn’t a bad build for this program. It certainly was a quick build. However, do we need it to continue?

Tribal Chief? What?

Let’s start with my first problem with this whole feud between Roman Reigns and Jey Uso—the tribal chief issue. Has WWE ever had a tribal chief? Write to me in the comments if you know, because I truly don’t. Do we need a new one? What does a tribal team chief do?

When Roman was in The Shield, I never heard anyone say, “oh, and by the way, Roman is one day going to be a tribal chief.” Or that he was the tribal chief, even. Do you remember anything like that? After The Shield, why didn’t he want to be the tribal chief then? A lot of fans couldn’t stand him, so maybe this could have helped him.

I understand that this is a matter of family an respect, like the head of an Italian Mafia family would demand respect from the rest of the family. But it just feels tacked on when we’ve never heard mention of their being the need for a “tribal chief” in the family before.

Jey Uso vs Roman Reigns Once Then Again?

I know Clash of Champions is usually a throwaway PPV between SummerSlam and Hell in a Cell, but I didn’t realize that Roman vs. Jey was an actual program. For those who’ve missed the feud so far, you will at least know that Jey Uso and Roman Reigns are true cousins who grew up together. Roman wanted to give Jey some notoriety and a PPV payday. Yet, Jey refused to give up to Roman in the Clash of Champions match and then acknowledge Roman as the new tribal chief. Jimmy Uso came down to throw in the towel and did acknowledge Roman.

Well, on the first SmackDown back from Clash of Champions on October 2nd, Roman called Jey out and said that, since Jey was so interested in his championship, then he can have another match at Hell in a Cell. But, it will have a special stipulation. As Roman was walking up the ramp, Jey said he accepts.

“I Quit?” Maybe I Will

Then, on Friday’s October 9th episode, Roman Reigns talked about how he wants Jey Uso to acknowledge him as a tribal chief. So he has decided that their Hell in a Cell PPV will now become an “I Quit Match.” Are you serious?!?!? Well, I have to tell you that when he said that, my couch pillow hit my TV from me throwing it. I don’t want to sit through that. “I Quit” matches are usually long. Roman has…maybe three moves. How many spears and Superman punches can we see? Give me an over and under on it.

Are the Fans Carrying Jey Uso?

Are we continuing the storyline because of the fans? I know it seemed like fans got behind this on the LED screens, but are the real fans watching on TV? Have the fans at home started rooting for Jey? I know that a lot of fans have always hated Roman Reigns and, with him being a heel, they hate him even more. Of course, Vince McMahon loves that Roman is finally getting some heat.

I think the problem is that WWE didn’t expect Jey to get that much fan support. That leads them into a dilemma. Are they leaning towards this being like a Daniel Bryan/Kofi Kingston moment? Is this story going to catch on fire? Or are they leaning towards this just being a storyline for Roman Reigns that turned out to be good? Either way, I believe we’re moving on after Hell in a Cell.

Jey Uso Over Braun Strowman and The Fiend?

Jey Uso is a tag team wrestler. No, I’m not slighting him or putting him down. I think he and Jimmy Uso have been underrated, actually, as a tag team. However, he is still a twin that most can’t even tell apart from his brother.

Yet, for almost five months, while Roman Reigns was out, we had Braun Strowman and Bray “The Fiend” Wyatt fighting over the championship and telling a mind game story. They then lose to Roman and…where did they go? Well, I don’t know. Did they not want the championship? I guess?!?!? Do they think Jey Uso is that much better than them? Maybe?!?!?! Are they doing something better? NO! What is going on? Hey, it is WWE.

I hope the next 13 days give us the best build of an “I Quit” ever. I want to get into this match and not be going to the bathroom and throwing pillows at my TV. Does WWE think THIS match is going to even compete with Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton and Bayley vs. Sasha Banks? Are you serious?

You have to tell me what you think about this. Am I wrong or on the money?
