Covid-19 Affects A WWE PPV

Clash of Champions #1

· 4 min read September 30, 2020

Hey Wrestling Fans, it’s Sam with your breakdowns of WWE Clash of Champions and how Covid-19 affected it. We’re going to go into detail about how each match affects WWE going forward in the future. What decisions did they make that changed where they were going or could have gone with different storylines?

The Kickoff Show

The six o’clock kickoff show, in my opinion, is usually worthless. It is usually a bunch of people that I don’t care about rattling on. So we got Charley Caruso, JBL, Booker T., and Peter Rosenberg. If you’ve been reading to me for any length of time then you know that I’m not real excited about this panel. They don’t really do it for me. I don’t feel like they bring a lot of knowledge to the table. I think they mostly repeat what they hear in their ear. However, tonight they did.

Rumors About Covid-19

If you follow the internet, Reddit, or Twitter then all day you had been seeing rumors and updates flying around. There were rumors that some people at the NXT developmental center had tested positive for COVID-19. There was another one that there were some members of the crew that possibly may have tested positive. Finally, there were other rumors that some WWE superstars had been around someone who had tested positive. Now, I want to clarify that these are all rumors. I couldn’t find anything, anywhere that any WWE superstar actually tested positive. However, we found out something was going on and something was true.

The rumors were found out quickly as Charley Caruso announced that the Women’s Tag Team Championships would not be defended at the PPV. She stated that Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax had not been medically cleared. Therefore the match would not be taking place and that they would discuss it tomorrow night’s Raw.

Then, it was announced that Nikki Cross also, was not medically clear to take on Bayley for the Smackdown Women’s Championship. Again, people had been spreading rumors about her since Killian Dane who is Nikki Cross’ husband had not been on NXT on Wednesday night. Nikki Cross also did not appear on the Smackdown Go-Home show. It had been said that Killian Dane had been around someone at NXT that had tested positive for Covid-19. This caused both of them to go into quarantine for the next 10-14 days.

Transparency?

We know that at WWE that COVID-19 is a bad word and that it is not to be used at all especially on TV. They absolutely do not want to talk about it at all. Of course, WWE could be really transparent and come clean to just tell us. It’s not like we haven’t been dealing with it too. Share with us that you are having to deal with it too.

Put out a statement saying, “Hey, Nia Jax is fine. She came in contact with someone that has COVID-19. We are trying not only to protect her but also others that may be around her. So we have to quarantine her. When she passes her test then she will be back. WWE wishes her the best and we will keep you updated. She’ll be back on your TV shortly.” That’s all.

Just a simple statement that she’s fine. She came in contact. Let’s wish her the best if she has it. You can send cards to the Performance Center or to the Thunderdome wishing her well. Why WWE cannot do that?

HIPAA – Don’t Write Me

I understand HIPAA rules don’t write to me at ProWrestlingOT@gmail.com or in the comments below to yell at me. I know they can’t do that without permission. So go talk to Shayna, Nikki, and Nia. Do you think if you put out a simple statement like that they would object? Just to tell your fans that you are ok. You know why? Because later that night Nia Jax basically did just that. She reassured her fans that truly care about her that she was ok. Her fans have supported her babyface or heel, whether she’s awful or not. They totally support her and Nia appreciates them.

Become Fan Friendly

I really wish WWE would change their policy, and just helped the wrestlers out. Quit pretending this pandemic isn’t happening. Quit pretending that your fans are stupid. But especially don’t try to get fans to care about the wrestlers, but when they do get mad and not give out information.

During the kickoff show, they also announced that Asuka vs Zelina Vega was moving up to the main card. While Cesaro/Shinsuke Nakamura vs Lucha House Party moved down to the kickoff show. Boy, oh, boy we’re in for a great one.

What do you think about this? Should they keep doing what they are doing? Should they be transparent? Let us know about it on Pro Wrestling Overtime.
